| Using Our Site |
| Because everyone browses the Web according to personal preference, our site provides a variety of pathways to find the information you seek. |
| How to Navigate |
| Browsing: |
| The home page presents some useful navigational
tools to quickly browse through the site. The upper navigational
bar divides a vast collection of information into broad
categories, such as Citizens, Business, and County Offices.
Clicking on a particular category takes you to a subpage
of related links and information. In this way, you can
quickly and easily find the Polk County web page that
meets your needs.
The left side of the page contains a table called Quick
Links. This table contains several lists of
departments and popular pages to make navigation to them
easier.
Use the scrollers on the side of each category to quickly
find the page you are looking for. The pages are listed
in alphabetical order within each category.
Every subpage in the Web Site has its own unique browsing table in the left-hand column. These unique tables allow you to jump easily from one category to another. It should be noted that the unique browsing tables only contain links relevant to the current page.
As you explore a category in the Web Site such as
Departments, you will notice a list of links begin
to form under the navigational bar. These links are
called bread crumbs, and they provide
easy access to the previous pages you explored in your
current
category.
From each page on our site you can navigate to the
home page in at least two ways. The Polk County logo
in the top left-hand corner of the page, and the first
entry in the bread crumbs will always
take you to the home page
|
| Site Directory: |
If you fail to find the site you are looking for, you might want to consult the Site Directory located in the table on the bottom-left hand side of the page. The Site Directory is a textual representation of the entire Web Site. It contains links to all of the major categories and sub categories of the Web Site making it easy to find whatever your looking for.
|
| Searching: |
| To make searching easier, there is a search field on
every page within the Web Site. To search, you simply type
the word or words relevant to the page you are looking
for, click go, and search results will be generated based
on
those words. Simply scan the results, find a description
that looks correct, and click on the link. |
| Page Tools: |
At the bottom-left hand corner of every page of the Web Site is a useful selection of essential tools such as the site directory and a printer friendly page option. Simply click on one of the links to use a tool.
|
| Dynamic Content |
| News: |
| The news scroller, located in the upper right hand corner
of the homepage, is updated frequently. The current
news will
display
within
the
table while you are on the homepage. If a story catches
your attention, click on the link to view the detailed
information. There is a control bar, similar to a tape
or CD player, that allows you to move forward or backward
at your own pace. There is a "View
Complete List" link
to access a list with all the news stories of the day. |
| Calendar of Events: |
| Currently being developed. A Calendar
of Events will exist on the right hand side of the homepage
directly under the news table. Clicking on a
date will display a list of the events occuring on
that day. |

and a picture of a county site. |
