The Polk County Building Division permits and inspects new construction, remodeling, additions, repairs, mobile home set ups, signs and other structures. We also issue contractor licenses and investigate complaints against licensed contractors.
Our main office is in Bartow (Phone: 863-534-6080), and we maintain satellite offices in Winter Haven (Phone: 863-401-2441) and Lakeland (Phone: 863-413-2093) which issue only single family residential and mobile home set up permits.
- Plan Review: This section reviews plans, schematics, and associated documents submitted with a permit application to ensure compliance with the Florida Building Code specifications.
- Permitting: The permitting section reviews all permit applications and associated documents for compliance with the Land Development Code and applicable state laws. Permitting also reviews property for floodway/floodplain, issues driveway and building permits, and assigns fees.
- Inspections: This section inspects all commercial and residential work that is permitted to ensure compliance with the Florida Building Code.
- Inspection Support / Document Retention: This section issues Certificates of Occupancy and notifies power companies for release of power to structures in compliance with the building code.
- Licensing: This section issues and renews contractor licenses, investigates complaints against licensed and unlicensed contractors, brings the cases before the Licensing Board for disciplinary action and regulation, investigates work that has not been permitted, and maintains licensing files.
